Equation-Based Modeling vs. Agent-Based Modeling with Applications to the Spread of COVID-19 Outbreak

چکیده
In this paper, we explore two modeling approaches to understanding the dynamics of infectious diseases in population: equation-based (EBM) and agent-based (ABM). To achieve this, a comparative study these was conducted highlighted their advantages disadvantages. Two case studies on spread COVID-19 pandemic were carried out using both approaches. The results obtained show that differential models are faster but still simplistic, while require more machine capabilities realistic very close biology. Based outputs, it seems coupling could be an interesting compromise.

Time Series Modeling of Coronavirus (COVID-19) Spread in Iran
Various types of Coronaviruses are enveloped RNA viruses from the Corona-viridae family and part of the Coronavirinae subfamily. This family of viruses affects neurological, gastrointestinal, hepatic, and respiratory systems. Recently, a new memb-er of this family, named Covid-19, is moving around the world. The expansion of Covid-19 carries many risks, and its control requires strict planning ...
متن کاملModeling and analysis of the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic using the classical SIR model
In this paper modeling, analysis and prediction of novel epidemic of COVID-19 are concerned to identify effective spread parameters of it in Iran. For this purpose, the basic susceptible-infected-removed (SIR) model is used which has two parameters: the infection rate and remove rate. The occurrence of several maximum points in the Iranian data and the single peak of the SIR model makes it impo...
متن کاملAgent-Based Modeling vs. Equation-Based Modeling: A Case Study and Users' Guide
In many domains, agent-based system modeling competes with equation-based approaches that identify system variables and evaluate or integrate sets of equations relating these variables. The distinction has been of great interest in a project that applies agent-based modeling to industrial supply networks, since virtually all computer-based modeling of such networks up to this point has used sys...
متن کاملModeling Human Education Data: From Equation-Based Modeling to Agent-Based Modeling
Agent-based simulation is increasingly used to analyze the performance of complex systems. In this paper we describe results of our work on one specific agent-based model, showing how it can be validated against the equation-based model from which it was derived, and demonstrating the extent to which it can be used to derive additional results over and above those that the equation-based model ...
متن کاملAn Agent- based Modeling for Breast Tissue Simulation and the Growth and Spread of Tumor in Various Breast Cancer States
Introduction: Breast cancer is a cancer that is caused by abnormal growth of breast cells. Modeling and simulation of the growth and treatment of breast cancer, along with providing the possibility of doing experiments and research, can reduce the time and cost of treatment by predicting some cases. The purpose of the present research was to develop an agent-based model for the simulation of b...
